BMI is a rough guide: it doesn't tell muscle from fat and ignores age and sex. It's no substitute for a health professional's assessment.

This BMI calculator gives your body mass index and the healthy weight range for your height in one go. Enter your weight and height and the result updates as you type.

What your BMI means

BMI sorts adults into broad bands — underweight, normal, overweight and obesity classes I–III. It’s a quick population-level screen, not a personal diagnosis: it can’t separate muscle from fat or account for age and sex.

FAQ

How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². For 70 kg and 1.75 m, that's 70 ÷ 3.0625 = 22.9.
What is a healthy BMI?
A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is usually considered the healthy range for adults. Below 18.5 is underweight and 25 or above is overweight.
Is BMI accurate?
It's only a rough screening tool. It doesn't tell muscle from fat and ignores age, sex and body composition, so a muscular person can read as 'overweight'. Use it as a guide, not a diagnosis.
